As
part of an evaluation of the semester, I present this letter as a reflection
of the experiences I have had in the
class. Throughout the semester, there are many things I learnt and
also went through that enhanced my learning
skills for use
in future semesters. When I started the
semester, I had a negative attitude towards writing formal and
creative papers.
Additionally, any form of writing that required detailed explanation was a challenge for
me. However, throughout the semester, it has been
easy to nurture the skills of both
formal and creative
writing. I now understand of how to format different types of papers as required without much struggle. Through the frequent study
of different materials, I acquired the skills
of composing descriptive essays. As a writer,
my strengths lie in my passion for reading
and easy to change upon correction. Reading helps to broaden
my ideas as well as enhancing my writing skills. Mistakes are inevitable, and it’s
important to take corrections positively as a writer.
I have more
pleasure in composing argumentative essays since it involves proving
my opinions, theories, or certain hypothesis.
I like writing the argumentative essays since one has the freedom to give both the supporting and
the opposing ideas about an issue. Thus, it is easy
to acquire information on both sides rather
than one solid type. The essay boosts
my skills in gathering quality information to prove my ideas. For
instance, an argumentative essay about the legalization of marijuana is very informative since it presents ideas across the board.
On the other
hand, composing a critical essay is hectic for me. Critical
essays deal with the analysis of the
strengths, weaknesses, and methods used
in someone else’s work. I find it very
tedious and involving since it requires me to engage fully with the mind
of the author. I have to check in the
presentation of ideas, identify the strengths,
and also weaknesses
of some work that I did not write. I think
any form of writing depends on individual perceptions, and the
interpretation of others is insignificant.
Most
of the essays I completed for this
class were at an average level of difficulty. Some were extremely
easy to handle in comparison to others. However, it depended on how best the course
instructor elaborated the different types
of essays in class. The class format
is good, and I find no major
reason to change it. However, in future;
it would be better if there were a more
friendly interaction between the lecturer and
the students.
According
to my evaluation; the lecture
notes used throughout the semester are of high quality. The
lecture notes had precise information
that is easy to understand
upon reading. We received feedback for most of the work
handed in for marking in time. Besides, the language used
for the comments
was easy to understand and help
in fixing the mistakes. Other materials
provided for the course were
helpful to expound more on what the
instructor taught. However, a few of them were challenging to use by being difficult
to extract the required information. The course textbook was very helpful
in providing most of the reference information
required in handling the assignments and
other quizzes. It would also be better
if the textbooks are available on all
the common platforms;
electronically and hand copy.
