The
FBI or better called the Federal Bureau of
Investigation is dramatically a branch of the domestic intelligence
and security service in the United States. It serves under the
domain of the Department of
Justice and is a concurrent member of the Intelligence
Community of the US. Among its special
projects is the victim identification in line with securing the nation against impacts of domestic terror and foreign
intelligence threats. Though fully committed
to the fulfillment of its projects, not all has gone as desired for
the FBI. In some occurrences, however, the FBI projects have failed. This

In
the article, Glen (2006) shares some theories
which he uses to explain why projects
fail, and that
can be extended to provide reasons for FBI project
failure too. According to Glen, the number one reason is the lack of a real
plan. Apparently, the success of any
project relies on the firmness of its foundation created at the designing
stage (Shauchenka, 2013). It
is thus possible that most of FBI projects
fail due to improperly mandated initial plans. The second
reason that accounts for the failure
of typical projects is excessive enthusiasm on the part of FBI project
designers and implementers. Excessive enthusiasm refers to the intense
enjoyment of the premature success of projects. That might be one of the causes of failures
of FBI projects as enthusiasm
creates overconfidence, and the eventual result
is the low concentration
to the project. Due to
overconfidence, critical parts
are either surpassed or not done well,
and the end-result is the failure of the
whole project (Shauchenka,
2013).
According
to the article, the third cause
of FBI projects failure could
be fear of admission of inabilities (Glen, 2006). The FBI projects may be failing due to the team fearing
to admit and report hardships they
face during the working out of the project to the management.
Their delay could be among the
causes of failure of FBI projects as it causes
them fail to obtain timely assistance. At the end, the
project could either collapsing or come
out with inferior results
(Shauchenka, 2013). The fourth cause
of failure of FBI projects
might be poor team morale. Glen says
that morale failure is one of the leading causes of project failure. It
may be caused by inadequate remuneration of the team and
poor collaboration between workers
and seniors. Fifth might be weak team spirit
and poor coordination of FBI project’s staff. Glen
asserts that a low coordinated team cannot work towards a common project goal.
The
article provides another cause of project
failure as poorly skilled managers (Glen, 2006). As such, if
the FBI projects’ managers lack sufficient
proficiency of how things should be done,
the result could be an eminent failure. Also,
FBI projects may have been encountering failures due to lack of leadership, which makes workers perform in their ways uncontrolled and uncoordinated. Another cause of projects failure and which could have cost the
FBI projects is inadequate
technical skills of workers (Glen, 2006). Glen reports that when
project teams are assigned tasks without checking their background capabilities, they may not produce desirable results. The FBI could thus be failing in its projects due to inconsiderable
staffing its projects with whoever
is available (Malone, 2009). Glen
advices that it is necessary to consider the critical
skills of the team and assign
each member the task best
suited for them (Malone,
2009). Following the same routine, the
FBI could remedy failures of
its projects (Malone, 2009).
