Career/Reflection Paper

My name is Abdullah Alghamdi, and I was born in Saudi Arabia. My parents have always tried their best to ensure that I realize my career aspirations and the fact that I have always adored a career in accounting led to them working hard to send me to study in the US. The United States of America has the best colleges in the world, which led to me applying for my accounting course at Wichita State University and majoring in accounting.  My father has the master degree in business administration and is a manager of one bank in Saudi Arabia. The close relationship between my father and I is the main reason I developed the passion in accounting as most of his work encompasses ensuring that the bank remains profitable. My mother on the other hand been vital in ensuring that I realize my aspirations as she has always ensured I get good graded and the fact that she has the bachelor degree in science, and a teacher in high school in Saudi Arabia was instrumental in making it possible.

I have designed some core goals that I intend to meet during my study at Wichita State University as an accounting major. One of these goals is in ensuring that I manage to complete my studies in accounting major as I have always wanted to get a college degree and make my parents proud. I am going to ensure that I do all that is possible to ensure I succeed in realizing this goal. By finishing this degree, I will be in a position to go back to my country and contribute through applying the knowledge I have attained in the different sectors of our economy. I would like to get a good job that will allow taking care of my parents when they retire as a way of showing my appreciation for their investment in my education.

I also intent to enroll for English tutoring as the way of ensuring that I improve my English language as I am not a native speaker to enhance my effectiveness when interacting with other people. In this case, I will also ensure that I enroll for tutoring in other languages to enhance my language familiarity base as a means of bettering my chances of getting an employment when I complete my studies. Getting a job on the campus within the accounting department is the additional goal I want to meet as through this, I will be able to access more resources in the field that my colleagues and additionally promote my participation in class. 

My major is in accounting as I would like to offer my services back home in Saudi Arabia. My father introduced me to the operations of the banking industry while I was at a tender age, highlighting the fact that accounting is one of the core qualifications needed to work in a bank or any other business that desires to generate a profit. Upon looking at the numerous industries in our country and those that are coming up, I realized that I would be almost guaranteed a job if I pursued accounting degree and the fact that I was always good in mathematics made the selection an easy one.

I choose WSU as it is one of the largest business schools in the world, offering a strong base in the diverse accounting facets that are vital in the promoting the development of a success accountant. The huge student population at the University offers an opportunity for one to interact with students of different nationalities and cultures, an attribute that is vital in personal development. Further, the competitive nature exhibited at the University ensures that upon graduating, one of amongst the best professionals in the world. The kind of exposure guaranteed by pursuing the course at WSU is the main reason I choose it as one can hardly get in anywhere else.

I have conducted an assessment of the diverse issues and opportunities that my major can take me. Among my most desire opportunities are in the oil industry, as the Saudi national back in my country as there not so many native people who have pursued accounting. Further, working as a finance director in an as well as acting as an accounting consultant for the businesses commencing operations in Saudi Arabia will be a fulfilling endeavor. Working in the banking industry additionally offers opportunities for my major (Apostolou, Dorminey, Hassell, & Watson, 2013). The work environment encompasses the geographical location and the immediate surroundings of my workplace in the context of office buildings and constructions. It would be preferable to work in a quite environment that offers adequate perks as medical cover and retirement benefits (Apostolou, Dorminey, Hassell, & Watson, 2013).  The prospective salaries encompass the probable amount that I will be getting as an accounting major graduate and should be between $57,500 and $70,000 (AccountWEB (n.d).           

One of my prominent strengths is that I have the ability to adapt to a new environment within the shortest time possible. Additionally, I am also quite flexible, an attribute that makes it possible for me to handle a different kind of situations with ease. One of my weaknesses, on the other hand, is that I am occasionally tempted to please everyone which has previously made it impossible to meet deadlines and expected quality. Reluctance to delegate duties is additionally a weakness that I have as I try to ensure the results are perfect and had on occasionally lead to opposition from my teams as they feel ignored.
