During this
iteration, the research intends to find the process of finding employment and
the things that the employers look for in the job applicants. The aim of doing
this is to help the researcher make a good plan that will be helpful in
achieving his objective of getting the best employment. The researcher intends to make use of the
website as it contains essential information to accomplish the research task
for this iteration. The sites that will
be helpful in this search include LinkedIn, Careercenter.com, and
Career.gov. These sites contain
important information that will give the researcher the direction of how to go
with the remaining iterations. The research plans to scrutinize and analyze the
information gotten from each of these sources as he also compares them to
ensure that he has all the information required to accomplish the iteration.
The researcher
planned to make sure that he laid down the objectives of the way he wanted the
things to be accomplished for the three days in which the research would take
place. In the first day of the research
process, the researcher planned to peruse through all the information from the
identified sites and ensure he understood it well including all the
vocabularies used so as to evade any confusion. In the second day, the
researcher planned to arrange the information in order or relevance while, on
the third day, the researcher planned to look for any additional informational
information to complement the one already obtained from the Web. The
information obtained will also help to make a plan as to how the next iteration
will be conducted with the aim of acquiring the identified requirements.
Action
When the actual
day arrived, the researcher came up with all the objectives regarding the
things that would be accomplishment during this iteration so as to have a clear
sense of direction on how to carry it out.
In the first day the researcher searched through various websites and
found three websites to be containing very important information. The
researcher searched through to find the requirements that many companies post
the things they want to get the job applicants. There were many things about
the educational requirements, the job experience, the communicational skills,
and the manner of presentation among other qualities. These requirements also depend on the type of
job that is being advertised because each job has its requirements. The
researcher also looked at the process involved in getting employment. These were all accomplishing in the first
day of the research.
In the second
day of the research, the researcher marked on the analysis of the data collected
from the first day so as to determine the things that were common to all the
types of jobs being advertised and those that were unique to his area of
profession. There was also the grouping of the necessary skills that are a
‘must have’ and the supportive skills that are an added advantage for an
applicant or interviewee. The third day entailed seeking for some more
information on the web to find out anything that has left out of the first
search. That would help to validate the findings from the first day. That
resulted in finding some additional information concerning the presentations
and the commonly asked interview questions. These were very important as the
interview is equally important as the other tasks. I leveraged the results of
this session to prepare a plan for the subsequent iterations. That would to
help that they are equally successful as this one.
Observation
The researcher
made several observations about the research that were conducted for the three
days to find the process of employment. The process of finding employment has
two sides, namely, the job hunter’s side and the employer’s side. For one, the
job hunting at best follows some ten steps as was observed from . First of all the researcher has to
identify the type of work that he/she wants, then set the job search timeline,
he/she should gather the supporting documents, and prepare and update the
resume. The fifth things entail the preparing and maintaining a job search list
plus the related contacts; the sixth one entails registering with employment
agencies, and then registering and searching for online vacancies. The eighth
step involves keeping watch on the advertised positions in journals, newspaper,
and notice board; contacting the employers as the ninth step, and lastly
seeking the opportunities for job experience such as learning and developing
new skills.
It was also
observed from the various websites visited that employers want certain
qualities in the employees or the job applicants. Among them include good communication skills,
the practical skills, the problem-solving skills, the ability to work well with
a team, the customer service skills, the technical skills, planning and
organization skills; and planning and organization skills among others. The above-mentioned requirements are the ones
that are common with many employers although depending on the type of job
advertised for, there will be additional requirements as pertains to that job.
Through the information gathered from the Web, the researcher made a plan on
how to carry out the subsequent iterations while paying attention to the
requirements gathered.
Reflection
Most of the
areas were addressed appropriately as per the anticipations and the objectives
of the researcher. The researcher got to learn an about the process of finding
an employment process in organizations. The researcher also got to find out
about the elements that employers look for in the job applicants and how one
needs to prepare so as to acquire those skills. The researcher also got to know
how to go about in preparing for the employment through the acquisition of the
required skills. It is through this
research that the researcher got to know that most job offering requires the
practical problem-solving skills rather than paperwork of the educational
documents. The time that was set for accomplishing the research for the first
iteration was well used without leaving anything out as per the list of
objectives.
The deliverable
saw a clean list of the requirements that the employers look for in an employee
and the process of preparing with the aim of acquiring them. The project was a
success because of the solid plan that was made at the beginning before the
start of the research. The researcher
also believes that comprehensive plan that has been developed in this iteration
would help to accomplish the remaining iterations. One of the things that did not go well is the
lack of involvement of experts in this research regarding the finding of an
employment process. The inputs that
experienced experts would have given cannot be ignored in this case. In the future, the researcher wants to solve
that problem by ensuring that all the resources are utilized well so as to add
more weight to the Web search.
