Components of a Comprehensive School Counseling Program

A school counseling program describes the discipline that is established within the school structure to have the impact on the development of the student academic, career, personal social life and competencies basing on the important school data. This school counseling program is developed with some essential components that should not get excluded from the program. Some of the most important components of a school counseling program are categorized in forms of systems (Johnson & Dinnall, 2009).

Foundation system

The foundation system describes the reasons that resulted in the establishment of the counseling program by outlining the mission, the vision of the program. Subsequently, the system addresses the strategic/ future methodologies of approaching the guiding and counseling of these students with the definition of the standards and the students’ priorities that the counseling team should take the focus.

Delivery system

Management system

The management system describes the personnel involved rather facilitates the program of counseling. Therefore, it outlines the school counselors, the school decision-making team (Advisor Council). The section outlines the program/ calendar on how the counseling program is undertaken with the generation of required reports.

Accountability system

Describes the measures undertaken to improve the current counseling processes to get it facilitated using the available school data. The system describes the evaluation of the school counseling program.
