Career planning tends to be a lifelong process that requires self-development and self-awareness. Career counseling is a process that helps in developing theoretical perspectives in a particular career. It is the responsibility of the career counselor to ensure that they assess the differences of children and their characteristics and how they relate to a certain occupation.

Consideration

When developing a career plan for grade 2-3 children, it is important to understand the work environment. The young children’s knowledge about most careers and also their occupational aspirations heavily influences by the occupations of their family members, socioeconomic status, and their relationship with parents. Therefore, in grade 2-3, it is important for learning self-awareness. Therefore, it is important to provide those situations where children can practice making a decision and accept responsibility for them. Grade 2-3 student tend to be uninformed about the demands of particular careers; thus, too early focus may inhibit them from trying activities linking to other careers (Stauffer & Capuzzi 2012). As they are maturing, the socially conditioned occupation gender stenotypes become deeply engrained.

Objectives

The objective is to help children make a satisfying life for themselves. It is also essential to discourage premature single-mindedness about certain careers. When dealing with grade 2-3 students, the objective is to help students in exploring their personal feelings and identifying the positive personal qualities. The objective is also to help students recognize the link between career-related goals and interest (Zunker, 2015). Because the childhood activities and hobbies require specific intellectual abilities and call for the task persistence and commitment, it tends to lead naturally to career choices.

Presentation

The presentation will be in the form of a group. The importance of using a group during the presentation is that it will help children to feel confident in participating as they are in the company of other students (Stauffer & Capuzzi 2012). In this way, children can participate well and be able to demonstrate their skills. Some of the approach to use during the presentation is using charts with a different drawing where students can identify various professions based on the drawing on the chart. Another method is to use some common materials used in different professions to identify if students can determine their use and name.

Plan

Some of the materials to use include charts with different drawing, items used in different professions, and also a field trip in different institutions. The purpose of using these materials is to help students learn about different professions and also determine their interests. The intention of the field trip is to generate awareness in students of the world that is beyond the school and home (Neukrug, 2011). The trip may include a visit to the fire station, nursing homes, or recreational facilities. The people who will be part of the learning process will include students and conducted in the school environment. I will consider selecting a classroom where students can be able to interact freely and also move around while they are viewing items. The stakeholders include parent or guardians and students. They are an important part of the planning because they are influential in determining the career path that their children will follow.

Evaluation

The evaluation of my counseling will be based on the knowledge that the students acquired from the activity. In this way, I will be able to determine whether students gained knowledge in learning about other careers and also their interest in different professions.
