Career counseling usually provides professional help to students in selecting the right career. All students usually have an education and career pathway plan approved by their guardians or parents. A career counselor tends to help plan the career development activities for all students and also career information activities for teachers (Neukrug, 2011).

Consideration

The main consideration in development for career counseling of grade 4-5 understands the individual difference for the learners in the grade four and grade five. It is necessary to ensure that you are aware of their personal traits and also appreciate their uniqueness. During counseling process, it is necessary to consider the different areas that make them feel good about themselves and what they like doing. Determining the skills that are necessary so that to qualify in the students dream career will be helpful so that to help the student succeed in school and manage to pursue their career (Cochran, 1997). Diversity is also an important considering during career counseling. The awareness of the different diversities can help in providing students with the best advice. The goal of a counselor is to maintain a stance of openness to learning and also enhancing skills, awareness, and knowledge. It is important to be aware of the different cultural aspects so as to be able to aid client effectively and not limit their possibilities.

Objectives

The objective is to help grade 4-5 students in their career development. Through career counseling, it will be of great help in exploring some of the behavioral characteristics of the students and also help students to set the appropriate goals. The objective is to assist these students with the process of making career decisions through helping them to choose a career or even an educational program. The objective also includes setting the growth goals for students in a particular profession.

Presentation

The presentation will be as a group where the career counselor will have to allocate time to visit students in the 4th and 5th grade. The counseling session will occur in separate sessions so as to ensure that one focuses on the skills and content for students in the different grades. It is important to highlight some of the important details that students need to know about their careers so as to know the expectation of that career.

Plan

Some of the materials to use include handouts for notebooks, career days, and demonstrations. It will be important to use career development activity book which is a resource that assists with the career infusion. A career day is important in helping students focus on their interests, career planning skills, and career exploration skills. Conducting the counseling will be in the school where every student feels free. It will be important to make sure that counseling for grade four and grade five students are separate. The key stakeholders include parent/guardians and students. The parents/guardian play a crucial part in the process as they will help in the planning process and how to guide, inform, and involve students in their future decisions (Kidd, 2007).

Evaluation

I will evaluate the counseling based on the feedback and the response that students provide. I intend to ask questions, which I will expect students to answer correctly. For instance, I will ask students some of the roles of accountants, dentists and also skills needed for a particular profession. In this way, it will be possible to determine the success of the counseling.
