Engineering Ethics

            Ethics is the study of the features of accepted morals. It involves the moral choices that individuals made during the process of interacting with one another. Every engagement between an individual and the society is governed my ethics. Engineers need to know ethics because they are involved in making choices during when they are practicing engineering. What is engineering ethics? Engineering ethics is rules and standards that govern the code of conduct of the engineers when they are fulfilling their professionals. It is critical for every engineering student to study ethics that govern engineering so that they will have a thorough preparation in making ethical decisions during their career (Martin & Schinzinger, 2000).

            Besides the above description of engineering ethics, it is also the study the moral issues and difficult decisions that confront individuals and various organizations that engage in the practice of engineering. Therefore, engineering is not only about individuals, but it also governs the organizations where engineering is practiced and the institutions where engineering is taught. Engineering ethics helps to ask study and answer questions about morality, characters, policies, and relationships between different people and people or between people and corporations that find themselves getting involved in the technological activity of engineering. The institutions where engineering ethics is taught argue that teaching engineering ethics does not have to do with preach of the virtues. Contrastingly, engineering ethics helps the people who undertake it to improve and enhance their ability to confront moral issues that originate from the practice of technological activity responsibly and without taking sides. Therefore, it helps the engineer to have a broad picture of the situation before deciding to make a decision (Martin & Schinzinger, 2000).
