IMPORTANCE OF STUDENT ENTHUSIASM

Student’s Enthusiasm and Buy-in In Learning
Student’s enthusiasm is essential in learning. It creates a greater responsibility and need for faculty, professionals, and students to investigate new and creative ways of sharing and developing authentic experiences for learning across institutions and disciplines. For students to gain enthusiasm, they need to be engaged in authentic learning that makes use of multidisciplinary critical thinking and problem-solving strategies. These skills will help them as experts and researchers in their everyday learning. Though authentic learning is not a new concept, it is currently receiving a renewed attention because of the technological advances and the technologies abilities in accessing greater virtual and real environments (Palmer, 2012).

The activities for authentic learning depend on student enthusiasm and buy-in for their success. Student’s enthusiasm and buy-in arise when they identify the relevance and the min value of authentic learning in the classroom. The employment of industry standards and enabling them to adopt a certain role helps boost their enthusiasm. It is because they understand the connection between their future careers and current course content. They also have a good understanding of how the discipline they are studying can be applicable in generating solutions to modern day issues. Thus, understanding these aspects students will always engage with their learning materials and will not view them as “busy work” (Reeves, Herrington, and  Oliver,  2011).
When analyzing learning materials about students buy-in and enthusiasm, it is important to put critical thinking into consideration. Students are aware that is I not always easy to see an answer to a real world problem. Designing learning materials, such as, authentic designing of learning materials in the manner of an ill-defined problem that mimics the real world problem to reflect students will confront after graduating. This style of learning places emphasis in the discovery mode through critical thinking skills in reaching the conclusion. It helps students gain an enthusiasm in seeking collaborations and how to find information.
